Innovative Engineering Systems, Inc. and Electrical Systems and Instrumentation, Inc. Announce Merger

December 11, 2017 by Alyssa Wolfer Leave a Comment

Bakersfield, CA –Innovative Engineering Systems, Inc. (“IES Engineering” or “IES” or “the company”) and Electrical Systems and Instrumentation, Inc. (ESI) are pleased to announce that they will be merging their multi-state business and operations effective January 1, 2018.   The combined entity will operate as IES in California and continue to operate as ESI in the Permian Basin.

With broad based offerings in diverse industries, strong reputations for safety and quality, and facilities in key geographies to the industries they serve, the merger expands IES’ position as the premier resource for instrumentation, programming, control system and electrical construction services on the West Coast and in the Permian Basin.

Bob Riley, ESI President and CEO, remarked, “It is amazing the way our two organizations fit together geographically, by offering, and culture – like a completed puzzle on the table.  Each company brings talents and skills that truly compliment the capabilities of the other.  The merger of IES and ESI is an example of 1 + 1 = 3.”

“I have great respect for Bob Riley and the entire ESI team,” says David Wolfer, IES Engineering President and CEO.  “ESI brings an outstanding industry reputation of providing safe and quality service, and I am inspired by our shared values. Together, we are stronger vertically, providing more engineering and construction services to our clients, and stronger horizontally, with our diverse, non-overlapping client bases.  I am very excited about what our two companies can accomplish as one through our shared commitment to our employee family and clients.”

Expanded Services

By combining the talents and expertise of both firms, IES will now be able to increase the scope of offered services to do more for clients and for employees.  The expansion of IES’ programming and electrical construction services alongside turn-key engineering and panel fabrication offerings will allow the combined company to provide broad-based resources and leading technologies under one roof, making them a stronger and more capable full-service company.  The addition of overhead line construction and high voltage installations aim to foster enhanced customer confidence and increase the company’s market share, while making significant inroads into maintenance work.

Diversification

IES’ increased presence in the Texas and New Mexico regions will serve as a spring board to build upon an existing reputation of quality instrumentation and electrical offerings bringing these established services to non-oil clients across the United States. This merge also signals an even more significant investment by IES in food and beverage construction where they have tremendous project success in diverse regions with premier food and beverage clients.  The company will also continue to pursue broad-based engineering and construction offerings in renewable energy, specifically solar for commercial and industrial clients.

About Innovative Engineering Systems, Inc.

IES Celebrates 15 Year Anniversary

June 28, 2017 by Alyssa Wolfer Leave a Comment

Innovative Engineering Systems, Inc.  (IES Engineering) is celebrating 15 years of business! The company, incorporated on April 19, 2002, has grown from a small start-up in the garages of founders, David Wolfer and Ben Gough, to a multi-talented, concept-to-completion design, engineering and electrical construction company with office locations in California and Texas as well as licenses to perform work in 12 other states. To celebrate this momentous milestone, IES invited employees, clients, and business partners to the company’s Bakersfield office for a home-style barbecue on May 19th, 2017 just outside IES’ in-house UL Panel Fabrication Shop.

“It gives me great pride to join IES employees, clients and business partners in celebrating the company’s 15th anniversary. We have come a long way since we first opened our doors in 2002 and are very excited about our future as IES continues to thrive in these difficult industry times,” said Mr. Wolfer when discussing the celebration.

IES’ ability to innovate solutions based on client-specific needs has been the driving force behind the company’s success over the past 15 years, and offers promise for future growth.

Guard Against Arc Flash with IES’ Hazard Analysis, Study Review and NFPA 70E Training!

June 2, 2017 by Alyssa Wolfer Leave a Comment

Keep your personnel safe and comply with NFPA/OSHA requirements with IES Engineering’s Arc Flash Hazard Analysis, Study Review and NFPA 70E Training.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), “Arc-flash is an electric current that passes through air when insulation or isolation between electrified conductors is no longer sufficient to withstand the applied voltage.” The flash is immediate, but the result of these incidents can be lasting.  Arc flash can cause severe injury and even death. More than 2,000 people are treated in burn centers with severe arc flash injuries each year.

IES Engineering offers a three-pronged solution to address the risk of arc flash.  From performing the initial arc flash hazard analysis to updating the arc flash study to training up qualified electrical workers in NFPA 70E concepts, IES has you covered.

Arc Flash Hazard Analysis (Initial Study & Required Study Review)

For greenfield projects, IES will perform the required initial arc flash hazard analysis, labeling panels with risk level to code, specifying proper PPE level and ensuring all qualified workers are trained in required NFPA 70E concepts.  The NFPA 70E specifies that arc flash studies must be reviewed, at least, every five years and/or anytime there is a major modification or upgrade to the electrical system.  Any changes to the system require an in depth review to ensure the accuracy of the labeling and effectiveness of the PPE requirements.

IES has performed countless studies for clients in diverse industries and have applied more than 20,000 labels on panels for our clients.   Given this breadth of experience, the IES arc flash team have put refined work process systems in place to efficiently gather field data, perform studies, recommend mitigation, create and apply labels.  In addition to mitigating safety risk to personnel, our process is focused on suggesting changes to the system to mitigate incident energy and thus associated PPE requirement.

NFPA 70E Training

Mitigating the threat of arc flash when performing electrical work is a significant safety challenge that is critical to address through preventative training.  IES Engineering’s Arc Flash Risk Mitigation Training (NFPA 70E compliant) ensures that you have the tools to keep you and your personnel safe through preventative safe work practices.

Arc flash training in NFPA 70E is required both as new personnel are added and retraining is mandated, at least, every three years.

In addition to learning how to identify and mitigate arc flash hazards and perform comprehensive arc flash risk assessments, our training provides the tools needed to effectively navigate the complexities of complying with NFPA/OSHA requirements.

IES Engineering’s Director of Engineering, Jordan Stockton, is seen above conducting a training in arc flash hazard identification, analysis, and risk mitigation techniques at a recent “Rockwell on the Move” forum. Trainees were equipped with real world solutions to determine and mitigate electrical hazards and gained actionable knowledge of safety work practices and standards through Mr. Stockton’s experienced instruction and hands on demonstrations.

Do you need to conduct an initial arc flash hazard analysis? Update your arc flash study? Retrain workers on the NFPA 70E?
